We will get you the best plea offer possible, and if that isn't good enough, we are not afraid to take your case to trial.  Our local knowledge and extensive trial experience will get you the best outcome possible in your DUI case.

Criminal charges for drunk driving in Maryland are a serious matter.  DUI is a crime.  The maximum penalty for drunk driving in Maryland is one year in jail and a $1000 fine.  These penalties increase for repeat offenders.  Your driver's license can also be suspended or revoked if you are convicted of DWI or DUI.  If you are convicted of DUI and you have a commercial driver's license then your CDL will be disqualified for one year.  This will likely cost a CDL holder his employment.  For first offenders we will seek a probation before judgement. This means you avoid a conviction even if you are guilty, and you don't get 12 points on your license and the subsequent license revocation.  However, a PBJ does not protect a CDL from disqualification.

At the MacDonald Law Office, our DWI attorneys provide defense representation to clients arrested for drunk driving throughout the Eastern Shore region. Our main office is located in Salisbury, Maryland, only 30 minutes from Ocean City. If you have been charged with drunk driving, contact us for a free consultation with an experienced Salisbury DUI defense lawyer.

In our view, communication is an essential element of good representation of a DUI client by a criminal defense lawyer.  Most people who are charged with DUI in Ocean City or Salisbury, Maryland, have never been accused of a crime before. Often, our DUI defense clients are unfamiliar with the criminal process and are concerned about what will happen to them.  Attorneys Andrew MacDonald and Cynthia MacDonald will guide you through the process from beginning to end.  We have the knowledge and local experience to inform you in advance about what to expect from your DUI charge in Ocean City or Salisbury.  We will always be available to answer your questions about your DUI, even on nights and weekends.

We will do everything we can to make you feel at ease, and we will guide you through the system, pursuing a result with the fewest possible adverse consequences.

If you are charged with DUI or DWI in Maryland, the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will probably attempt to suspend your driver's license.  If you refused a breath test, or took the breath test and blew over a .08, then your license and/or priviledge to drive in Maryland will be automatically suspended at least 6 months for a first offense.  There are important options which could allow you to drive that you need to consider promptly. You can request a hearing with the MVA to challenge this suspension within 10 days of your arrest, or you can elect to participate in the ignition interlock program.  If you are charged with DUI you need to consult with an attorney at the MacDonald Law Office about your options to continue driving.  We can represent you at an MVA hearing if necessary.

For people who have been convicted of DUI in the past, the dangers of a new charge in the criminal justice system are higher. Alleged subsequent offenders may not be eligible for probation before judgment and may face increased fines and jail terms if they are convicted. The penalties for driving under the influence are drastic and can change your life forever.  Maryland judges typically put DUI repeat offenders in jail.

If you are a repeat offender you need an experienced trial attorney from the MacDonald Law Office, not a plea bargain lawyer.  Subsequent offenders must get a not guilty verdict to avoid jail terms because the State's Attorney will rarely drop the case. They don't teach trial skills in law school.  Trial skills come from experience in the courtroom.  As a former prosecutor for ten years and a criminal defense attorney for nine years, Andrew MacDonald has tried hundreds of DUI cases.  We provide aggressive DUI defense representation to people who are being accused of subsequent drunk driving offenses. With our former criminal prosecution experience, we know how to get a not guilty verdict in a DUI case.  Contact us to discuss your charges with an experienced DUI defense lawyer.
