What you should understand about attorney-client privilege

There's been a lot of discussion of attorney-client privilege in the media lately. Even though it's a concept that's been around in some form for centuries, many people misunderstand it. People often assume that it means that any time you're speaking with an attorney about anything, the attorney is bound to secrecy. That's far too broad of an interpretation.

What is bribery?

There are some misconceptions around what constitutes bribery. A bribe is defined as a "benefit (as money) given, promised, or offered in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust."

Why is perjury a crime?

The justice system relies on truthful testimony in both criminal and civil cases. That includes verbal as well as written information provided by witnesses and others involved in a legal matter. Witnesses who testify in trials and depositions swear to tell the truth before they are questioned. When people complete and/or sign various types of legal documents, including their tax returns, they stipulate that the information they're providing is accurate to the best of their knowledge.
