Casino: Surveillance System Identifies Robbery Defendant

Maryland authorities say they have identified a defendant in a suspected armed robbery at the Maryland Live! casino. That 28-year-old man is currently being held for his role in the robbery, which occurred in the parking garage at the popular destination. He is accused of brandishing a weapon while two victims were sitting in their vehicle; he allegedly demanded their money and then left. The man has reportedly confessed to participating in the robbery, and he was able to direct officers to the location of the stolen items.

Official reports show that the man was identified through surveillance video. That information led to a quick arrest in the case; the defendant was brought in within 24 hours of the robbery. A tipster was able to identify the man, which prompted officers to pursue the arrest.

The fact that the defendant in this case apparently used only a pellet gun during the robbery may not change the nature of his charges. In fact, authorities say that such an act is just as serious as a robbery with an actual deadly weapon. The defendant remains in police custody, where he is being held in lieu of a $200,000 bail.

Casino representatives say that they are attempting to prevent crime on their premises through the use of a state-of-the-art surveillance system. This sophisticated security system is designed to protect clients and facilitate the apprehension of defendants. Criminal defendants who are facing allegations of violence and robbery that are supported by surveillance video may avail themselves of the services of a criminal defense attorney in Maryland. These professionals may provide additional information about the impact of such evidence upon the outcome of a criminal case.
